I love that books written by Tony Evans can be trusted - full of Biblical truth. Kingdom Family Devotions: 52 Weeks of Growing Together is a beautiful hard-backed book intended to be used 5 nights out of the week to lead your family to be more like Jesus. Each week has a topic. Each day begins with a single verse to read together. Many of the day's devotionals end with though provoking questions or "homework" for the family. This books seems perfect for kids 5 years of age and older. I look forward to implementing these teachings into our family devotional time as my children grow. And since this is a year's worth of devotionals, it would even be an excellent one to work through multiple times. I love that the verses and the devotionals are short - to help little attention spans to remain engaged.I received this book from Tyndale in exchange for an honest review.
I will probably return this book. I feel like for one thing it's geared for a family with younger kids, like maybe 10 and under. My kids range from 2-15, so a lot of it is not gonna engage my older kids. Most importantly, it's like a self help book for families 😠there was a time in my life where I devoured self help style books, thankfully the Lord has delivered me from that mindset. I do not want to go back there or encourage my kids into that mindset. I haven't read Tony Evans before, so idk if this is his norm, but I've heard good stuff about him, so this was really disappointing. It's not so much that it's flawed in doctrine, it's just really his approach. At this stage in my walk with the Lord, I've learned self help is garbage bc its behavior modification, like fruit ninja. Jesus wants to transform us from the inside out, so we just need to yield to the Holy Spirit as he removes the roots that are causing the "bad fruit" (root ninja ☺)It boils down to this- I can try to change my behavior (cleaning the outside of the cup as Jesus put it) but I have no ability to actually transform myself, I just surrender to the Lord as He does it (cleaning the inside of the cup). I do not recommend this book unless all you care about is playing church.
My family and I have started reading this devotional book every morning. I have a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old that are having to get used to getting up a little earlier every morning so we can fit in the time. Some of the lessons are a little silly but I think we realize that we all need to have this time together. Having a time that we all sit together talking about God is the best thing that we could have ever started. I know that this devotional book will grow each one of my family members closer to God and help us start our day right.
We love this devotional! We have 4 kids ages 2,3,8,11. All of them are benefiting from the lessons and scripture. We have memorized a scripture each week, including our 2 year old. Our kids get excited about the fun Friday activities.Totally recommend!!
My family is about a month into this book and are enjoying it. It is very family appropriate. Both my 6 and 12 year old daughters seem to understand. I am only giving it 4 stars because I am disappointed that there are only 5 devotions per week. I certainly don't think Tony Evans would ever tell us it is okay to take off 2 days a week in spending time with God as a family, yet the book leaves you hanging for what to do on 2 days of the week.
We are a few weeks in and my kids love the book. I am very pleased with the amount of time for the reading and we love the short activity or illustration for the lesson. My kids look forward to the activity and love to help read the verse. So far I am very pleased with the message and the relatabilty for my kids. The short activity really helps to remember the message and apply it. Their ages are 2, 4, 6 and 8. The 2 and 4 year old don't quite get it yet but it sets a great time for us sharing bible time in the evening.
So far we have enjoyed the discussions and activities that the book provides. It is important to make the effort to spend time with your children studying God's word. This book offers short, simple lessons that are applicable to school-age children to adults. We needed something that would provide us with substance but within a short time frame. This book has worked perfectly for our family and I would recommend it.
This is a great devotional but probably geared toward younger families. I have teenaged boys that read Kingdom Man and thought this would be a good family devotional, but the readings are a bit simple.
This is family friendly! Our kids range from 23-5 years old. The content is relevant to everyone and is not overwhelming in time commitment. We do ours every morning before people rush off for the day. But it can easily be adapted for any family's schedule or needs. The content is scriptural and sound. Highly recommend this product!
