When you pursue God’s dream for your life, it can be a little scary, but man is it worth it!”—Tim Tebow“Creative. Inspiring. Challenging. Batterson’s writings always leave us encouraged, and Chase the Lion is no exception. If you feel as if life has caused you to shrink the size of your dreams, this book is for you!”—Louie Giglio, pastor of Passion City Church, founder of Passion Conferences, and author of The Comeback“Mark Batterson reminds us to trust in the powerful truth that with God we don’t have to let our thinking be limited. By obeying Him, we let our growing faith push us to dream big and lean in ever closer to Him without fear or hesitation. It’s time to trust in our God, who allows us to accomplish things that seem bigger than we could ever imagine!”—Craig Groeschel, pastor of Life.Church and author of #Struggles: Following Jesus in a Selfie-Centered World“We seek out community in everything we do—and our dreams should be no different. In Chase the Lion, Batterson reminds us to come together, share our dreams, and chase after them. And in doing so, we become not only dream chasers but dream catchers for the others in our pride.”—Steven Furtick, pastor of Elevation Church and New York Times best-selling author“Chase the Lion fosters an expansive mind-set that drives our willingness to dream bigger than ever before. This mind-set is a choice, a decision, and a belief that God designed and created each of us for greatness, nothing less. If we aren’t courageous and bold enough to extend ourselves and believe that God will give us the capacity for greatness, we will have cheated our potential. This book is for anyone scared of not achieving the real greatness they are capable of.”—Buzz Williams, head basketball coach at Virginia Tech“Mark Batterson’s writing has had a profound impact on my life, both personally and professionally. Join me in accepting Mark’s challenge to pursue a dream so big that only God can turn it into a reality. Life is better when you’re chasing lions!”—Kirk Cousins, quarterback for the Washington Redskins“Pastor Mark has done it again! Mark’s words force me to ask and answer: What lions am I chasing? What dreams am I dreaming that will make a difference in my children and my children’s children and a hundred years from now?”—Hugh Freeze Jr., head football coach at the University of Mississippi

This book is full of practical application of how you can not only Chase the Lion but capture it. Mark Batterson uses the biblical story of Beniah in 2 Samuel to show us how we all have been given a dream by God that we created to dream. The author also gives us real life examples of those who chased their lion and won. Mark encourages each of us to stop being afraid to dream and take chances to follow God's dream for our lives.I highly recommend this to everyone.
So...I thought I was a failure. I tried and it didn't work. I waited a few weeks and I tried again. It still didn't work. I waited a few weeks and I tried again. It still didn't work! I just can't do it. I cannot create a working pattern! I have lost my touch. I can't seem to do anything right. So I quit. I gave up. But, I still felt like God was tugging at my heart to try again. Why? I asked! I keep failing!Then...I started a book called Chase The Lion. I wasn't even halfway through the book when the proverbial light bulb went off in my head! As I read, "Games aren't won on game day. Games are won in the weight room, the film room, the locker room." I continued to read the chapter and I read this, "I don't know what dream you are chasing, but you have to prove yourself one swing, one rehearsal, one practice, one book at a time." I completed the chapter and realized I was not a failure. I had to try every day, I had to work harder, I could not give up when I had a failure slow me down, it IS one step at a time! It IS trying one more time! It IS failing one more time! It IS not giving up! You got to read this book! It CAN change the way you perceive your dreams! It CAN give you new courage! It CAN put you on the God-given path you should be on! It CAN show you how God will show up for you! I was giving up too easily! I was not a failure! I had to become stronger in my convictions, no giving up! Nothing is won by sitting in a recliner, get up and run to your lion! Chase it! Hunt it! Go for it!You can do it! This book is well written and so easy to understand the path to chase your lion/dreams! Every word makes sense and each chapter brings you either closer to conviction that you CAN do it or you just don't want to try that hard! I dare you to read it!
Having read "In a Pit with a Lion on Snowy Day" just three years ago, I found Batterson's sequel "Chase the Lion" to be absolutely superb! Mark is a master story teller. His ability to intertwine meaningful stories into his writing engaged me in an exceptional way. For people who might say that he is extending a story beyond its biblical context I hear you. Nevertheless, as Christians who bear the image of God, within bounds I see nothing wrong with using our God-given creativity to tell the story behind the story. While there is so much that I like about this book, in particular I found his guidance to struggling writers in Chapter 13, Snowy Day, in sections "Art of the Start" and "Eighty Percent Certainty" to be very worthwhile. Like many writers we either fail to start or we get so wrapped up in perfecting our words that we do not write anything. A real shame especially for those called to write. Or as Mark says, "Are you called to write? If the answer is no, don’t waste your time. If the answer is yes, then anything less is disobedience.â€Again, I highly recommend this book for many reasons. In particular if you are just going through the motions of life trying to get to the end without messing up as fair warning this book will rock your world off of its axles!
The first thing that caught my attention about this book was the title, Chase The Lion: If Your Dream Doesn't Scare You, It's Too Small. As an avid reader, I have come across a lot of books with catchy titles, but I found myself repeating this title to myself while I was at work, home, and even out running errands. When I did find some quiet time to open the book - I was unable to close it. True Story: I read The Lion Chaser's Manifesto at least five times before I began reading the book. One of the things I love about this book was the stories he shared. It's a good thing to hear about faith but it's even better when you are given examples of how GOD moved and is continuing to move in other people's lives - including ours. The Bible is full of field-of-dream moments.Imagination is God's gift to youChase the Lion challenges the reader to look their "Lion" aka fears/hurdles directly in the eye and run towards them. RUN TO THE ROAR!!! The author writes with such candor it's as if he is sitting right across from you encouraging you along that way. I think I have carpal tunnel from using my highlighter so much while reading this book.
While I very much liked the overall message and how the book focused on a little known Biblical figure as the originated of the message, I found myself disliking the author's writing style and feel it failed to really deliver the point. The book seems to be a combination of his personal story, the story of his church, a self help book, and random examples, and by not focusing on any one part of them, it comes out as a mishmash that never really drives the point home. His style of giving you bits and pieces of various stories, never fully fleshing them out took away from it. Or, if an entire story is told, it sums up a persons major life decisions in two short paragraphs and immediately moves on.It bears repeating, but I really enjoyed the key message about chasing dreams. I just feel like it could have been given in a better format by focusing more on either on the story of his church along and fleshing it out, or focusing and detailing out others choices.
I have been encouraged, motivated and challenged by this incredible book. Knowing what In a Pit . . . did for me spiritually and in terms of personal vision, Chase The Lion has multiplied that intensely!I HIGHLY recommend this great book to anyone that feels like they are stagnant in their faith, life, and even to those that think they have it all figured out! Go get it!!!
